The Mysteries of Campobasso
The "Festival of the Mysteries" of Campobasso is one of the most important and fascinating events of popular culture of religious Molise. It takes place on the day of Corpus Christi and is the procession of thirteen Mysteries along the streets of the historic center and represent "living pictures of the Old and New Testament". Children, seniors and adults dressed in colorful clothes, representing angels, saints and demons, are anchored in the structures of steel and wood, coated so as to give the impression of an indefinable sense of mystery in the air. Machines of the Mysteries were created in 1748 by Paolo Saverio Di Zinno.
